Change the way you think about teaching and literacy. Bring games and game playing into your classroom to promote learning and deepen student understanding. Learn how teachers are using gamification in the classroom to improve literacy, student collaboration, content learning, and critical thinking. Experience different gaming platforms and create game based experiences to bring back to your classroom and school. Come prepared with an electronic device to immerse yourself in game based literacy learning to engage and motivate both teachers and students.
Throughout this session participants will learn how to build a boss battle, create a leaderboard, and design challenges and quests that immerse students in collaborative and inquiry driven learning experiences. Gamification can be lots of fun for students and teachers alike. At the same time, gamification can help students build skills and amplify student voice. In gamifying one’s class, the learning goals and objectives are the guide.
This hands on session invites participants to play games and interact with game based platforms that teachers can customize for student learning. The presenter will describe the elements of game based learning and share dozens of content area examples of games and gamification strategies. Participants are encouraged to bring their own devices to interact with the presenter and other attendees.
